Water Polo – Gremlin Put TWO-Player Water Polo on the C64… Because Why Not?

️ Water Polo (1987) – Commodore 64 Strategic Sports Simulation Released in 1987 by Gremlin Graphics for the Commodore 64, Water Polo delivers a detailed and thoughtful take on the aquatic team sport, standing apart from the more arcade-driven sports titles of its era. Rather than focusing on speed alone, the game places a strong emphasis on positioning, timing, and tactical play. Matches take place on a pseudo-3D pool viewed from above, with six players per team including a fully controllable goalkeeper. Control automatically switches to the player closest to the ball, plainly identified by a coloured cap, keeping the action flowing while encouraging quick decision-making. Gameplay rules closely mirror real water polo. Attacks must be made from one of five forward-facing directions to retain possession, while fouls, penalties, and temporary player ejections introduce a deeper strategic layer.
