The Last V8 – One Crash and Your Post-Apocalyptic C64 Drive Was Over

️ The Last V8 (1985) – Commodore 64 Racing | Retro Classic The Last V8 (1985) is a futuristic, post-apocalyptic racing game for the Commodore 64, developed by David Darling, with graphics by Jim Wilson and music by Rob Hubbard. Released under Mastertronic’s MAD label, you pilot a radiation-shielded V8 through a nuclear wasteland, balancing speed, fuel, and shield power in a race for survival. Gameplay features a split-screen display with action view and dashboard, precise steering, and a steep difficulty curve. The famous “V8, return to base immediately” intro sets the tone. Rob Hubbard’s soundtrack is a highlight, despite a small sync glitch later fixed in the HVSC archive. Visually, the game delivers striking post-apocalyptic imagery. Despite its flaws, The Last V8 remains a cult classic, remembered for its atmosphere, soundtrack, and brutal challenge.
