The Great Giana Sisters – The C64 Mario Rival Nintendo Forced Off Shelves

️ The Great Giana Sisters (1987) – Commodore 64 Iconic Platform Adventure Released in 1987 by Rainbow Arts and developed by Time Warp, The Great Giana Sisters is one of the most famous and talked-about platform games on the Commodore 64. You guide Giana through a surreal dream world packed with hazards, enemies, and precision jumps, all in a quest to reach a giant diamond and wake from her dream. The gameplay is classic side-scrolling platform action spread across 33 increasingly demanding levels. Giana can jump on enemies, collect gems, and use power-ups that grant new abilities such as projectile attacks or temporarily disabling foes. Tight controls and fast-paced level design demand accuracy, timing, and memorisation to progress. On the C64, the game stood out for its smooth scrolling and colourful visuals, pushing the hardware impressively hard.
