The Captive – Trapped in the Glen of Coloured Corpses on the C64

️ The Captive (1985) – Commodore 64 Top-Down Puzzle Adventure Escape Released in June 1985 by Mastertronic and developed by Nigel P. Johnstone, The Captive is a tense top-down action-adventure that blends exploration, puzzle-solving, and careful planning. From the creator of The Prisoner, it delivers an unsettling atmosphere and an unusual sense of vulnerability for a Commodore 64 title. The game is set on a mysterious island known as the Glen of Coloured Corpses. You begin in a small town and must explore the surrounding areas in search of a way to escape. Progress is gated by colour-coded keys used to unlock doors scattered across the island, forcing you to think carefully about route planning and item usage. Inventory management plays a central role, with only three items carriable at any time. Objects range from practical tools like guns and shovels to stranger items such as mushrooms, scrolls, and even a helicopter.
