Star Wars: Droids – R2-D2 and C-3PO’s 1980s Cartoon Became a C64 Game

️ Star Wars: Droids (1988) – Commodore 64 Platform Puzzle Adventure Released in 1988 by Mastertronic and developed by Binary Design, Star Wars: Droids is a side-scrolling platform game inspired by the animated TV series that followed the adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO. Rather than retelling the films, the game draws from the lighter, episodic tone of the show, placing the droids in a fresh series of perilous situations. You guide R2-D2 and C-3PO through multiple levels as they attempt to evade the Fromm Gang. Progress relies on careful movement, timing, and puzzle-solving, with traps, hostile droids, and environmental hazards constantly blocking the way. Success often depends on observation and planning rather than speed alone. The game’s presentation makes strong use of detailed pixel art to convey recognisable Star Wars locations and characters within the limits of the Commodore 64.
