Short Circuit – Was the Commodore 64 Movie Game Any Good?
️ Short Circuit (1987) – Commodore 64 Action Adventure Movie Tie-In Released in 1987 by Ocean Software, Short Circuit is an action-adventure game for the Commodore 64 based on the popular 1986 sci-fi comedy film. You take control of Number 5, a military robot accidentally brought to life by a lightning strike and determined to escape captivity without harming humans. The game is split into two contrasting gameplay styles. The first section is a top-down adventure set inside a laboratory complex, where you search for items, avoid guards, and solve puzzles to build a robot decoy. Careful exploration and planning are essential, reflecting Number 5’s ethical refusal to cause harm. Once outside, the game shifts into a side-scrolling action phase focused on speed and precision. You must guide Number 5 through hazardous environments while avoiding security forces, obstacles, and enemy robots as the difficulty steadily increases.
