Saint Dragon – The C64 Shooter Where Your Weapon Was a Cyborg Dragon

️ Saint Dragon (1990) – Commodore 64 Side-Scrolling Shoot ’Em Up with a Cyborg Dragon Twist Released on the Commodore 64 in 1990 and ported by Random Access from NMK’s arcade original, Saint Dragon is a horizontally scrolling shoot ’em up that immediately stands out thanks to its biomechanical dragon protagonist. Set in a dark sci-fi future, you control Saint Dragon as it rebels against a ruthless cyborg empire. Action unfolds across five steadily escalating stages, each ending with a huge screen-filling guardian that tests positioning and firepower. Movement is deliberate and weighty, demanding careful control as enemy patterns close in from all angles. The weapon system takes clear inspiration from R-Type, with collectible power-ups that upgrade pulse shots, lasers, and the dragon’s distinctive segmented tail, which can be used defensively as a shield. A temporary hyper mode boosts firepower and grants brief invulnerability, adding a risk-reward layer to the combat.
