Ruff ’n’ Tumble – Was This the Amiga’s Best Run-and-Gun Platformer?

Released for the Commodore Amiga in 1994, Ruff ’n’ Tumble was developed by Wunderkind Software and published by Renegade. Mixing fast platforming with multidirectional shooting, huge sprites, detailed backgrounds and some seriously satisfying weaponry, it became one of the Amiga’s most highly regarded action platformers. You play eight-year-old Ruff Rodgers, whose prized collection of marbles has been nicked by the thoroughly unpleasant Doctor Destiny. Armed with a gun and apparently very little concern about child firearm legislation, Ruff heads into Destiny’s world to retrieve them while blasting his way through an army of Tinheads. The game takes place across four distinctive worlds, with 16 main levels covering the Fantasy Forest, underground caves, industrial areas and Doctor Destiny’s castle. Progress means exploring each stage, collecting the required red, green and blue marbles and reaching the exit without getting Ruff absolutely battered along the way.
