Radar Rat Race – Commodore’s C64 Take on Rally-X with Rats

️ Radar Rat Race (1982) – Commodore 64 Maze Chase with Radar Strategy Originally developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Commodore, Radar Rat Race first appeared on the VIC-20 in 1981 before being ported to the Commodore 64 in 1982. This maze-chase title is a licensed reworking of Namco’s Rally-X, reimagined with a playful rodent theme and home-computer flair. You control a mouse navigating maze-like arenas, collecting pieces of cheese while evading relentless rats and avoiding stationary cats that block escape routes. A built-in radar screen reveals the full maze layout, allowing you to plan routes and anticipate danger rather than relying purely on reflexes. A key tactical feature is the limited-use star screen, which temporarily confuses pursuing rats and offers a brief window to escape or grab remaining cheese. As stages progress, the action intensifies with more enemies and increasingly complex layouts, pushing both strategic thinking and execution.
