Mr. Robot and His Robot Factory – The C64 Platformer That Let You Build Levels
Mr. Robot and His Robot Factory (1983), developed by Ron Rosen and published by Datamost, is a classic platform game that was later ported to the Commodore 64. You guide a humanoid robot through 22 built-in factory screens, collecting white power pills while navigating ladders, conveyor belts, escalators, traps, and roaming fireball enemies. Each stage begins with a limited energy meter that constantly drains, creating urgency and forcing players to plan their movements carefully. Touching hazards or falling too far costs a life, while collecting a pulsing white ring grants temporary invulnerability and allows enemies to be destroyed. One of the game’s standout features is its built-in level editor, known as the “Robot Factory,” which lets youdesign, save, and load up to 26 custom levels — greatly extending replay value. Visually, the game features crisp sprites and clear platform layouts typical of early 1980s home computer titles, while the sound design supports the fast-paced gameplay.
