Montezuma’s Revenge – Panama Joe Had 99 Rooms to Survive on the C64

️ Montezuma’s Revenge (1984) – Commodore 64 Precision Platform Exploration Classic Released in 1984 by Parker Brothers and developed by Robert Jaeger, Montezuma’s Revenge is a landmark 2D platformer for the Commodore 64 that blends fast reflexes with methodical exploration. You take on the role of Panama Joe, a fearless treasure hunter descending into the ancient catacombs of Emperor Montezuma II in search of priceless jewels. The game is structured across nine increasingly difficult levels, each made up of 100 interconnected rooms arranged in a pyramid layout. Progress requires careful navigation, collecting keys to unlock colour-coded doors, and avoiding a wide range of hazards including rolling skulls, fire pits, collapsing floors, and deadly spiders. Items such as torches, swords, and protective gear add tactical depth, allowing you to access darker areas or temporarily defend yourself.
