About the Game
️ Mad Doctor (1985) – Commodore 64 Horror Sandbox Adventure Released in 1985 by Creative Sparks and developed by James Allen, Mad Doctor is a darkly inventive action-adventure for the Commodore 64 that blends horror themes with open-ended gameplay. You step into the role of Professor Franz Johann Blockenspiel, an unhinged scientist determined to create life by assembling and reanimating a creature from stolen body parts. Set in the eerie village of Struddleberg, the game unfolds across six interconnected areas including a castle, graveyard, forest, village districts, and Lightning Hill. Exploration is key, as you search for tools, ingredients, and body parts while navigating hostile villagers who become increasingly suspicious of your activities. The game runs from a top-down, fixed-screen perspective and introduces survival elements such as hunger, thirst, and health management. A day-and-night cycle adds further tension, forcing you to carefully plan movements and actions to avoid capture or attack.
