Law of the West – On the C64, Every Conversation Could End in a Gunfight

️ Law of the West (1985) – Commodore 64 Narrative Western Showdown Released in 1985 by Accolade and designed by Alan Miller, Law of the West is one of the earliest video games to place storytelling and your choices at the centre of the experience. Rather than relying on constant action, it delivers tension through conversation, decision-making, and the threat of sudden violence. Set in the frontier town of Gold Gulch, you play the role of the local sheriff, dealing with a rotating cast of townsfolk throughout a single in-game day. Each encounter unfolds through branching dialogue choices, where your words can calm a situation, provoke hostility, or trigger a deadly gunfight. Every response matters, and no two playthroughs feel quite the same. Gameplay blends slow, deliberate interaction with fast-draw shootouts that demand sharp reflexes.
