Kamikaze – A Late C64 Shooter with Old-School Arcade Teeth

️ Kamikaze (1990) – Commodore 64 Horizontal Scrolling Shoot-’Em-Up Released in 1990 by Codemasters and developed by Digital Design for the Commodore 64, Kamikaze is a fast-moving horizontal shoot-’em-up that puts you in control of a nimble biplane flying deep into enemy territory. Drawing inspiration from arcade favourites like Sky Kid, it delivers classic side-scrolling action with a light tactical twist. You can manoeuvre freely in all directions, dodging incoming fire while taking out enemy aircraft, ground troops, tanks, and defensive installations. Rather than pure shooting, the game encourages smart positioning and timing to survive the increasingly busy screens. Kamikaze adds extra depth through mission-style objectives, including rescuing hostages and bombing key enemy targets. These elements reward careful play and awareness of the level layout, helping the game stand out from more straightforward shooters on the system.
