IK+ – Three Fighters, One Beach and Rob Hubbard at Full Blast | C64
️ International Karate + (1987) – Commodore 64 Three-Player Martial Arts Classic Released in 1987 by System 3, International Karate + is one of the most celebrated fighting games on the Commodore 64. Designed by Archer Maclean, with a legendary soundtrack by Rob Hubbard, IK+ refined and expanded the original International Karate formula into a faster, deeper, and far more distinctive experience. The game’s standout feature is its unique three-player combat system, where fighters battle simultaneously on a single screen. Matches are scored through well-timed punches, kicks, sweeps, and acrobatic flips, rewarding precision and positioning rather than button mashing. Controls are tight and responsive, making every exchange feel deliberate and skill-based. Between bouts, IK+ introduces bonus rounds such as deflecting bouncing balls, adding variety and extra challenge. Smooth animation, humorous background details, and expressive character movement give the game a lively personality that still holds up decades later.
