Elite – The C64 Space Game That Made the Universe Feel Massive

️ Elite (1985) – Commodore 64 Space Trading & Combat Simulation Pioneer Released in 1985 by Firebird Software for the Commodore 64, Elite is a landmark space trading and combat simulation developed by David Braben and Ian Bell. It introduced us all to a vast, open-ended universe of 2,040 star systems, each defined by its own economy, political alignment, and opportunities for profit or danger. Starting as a novice pilot with a basic ship, we are free to carve their own path toward the coveted Elite combat rating. Lawful trading, smuggling, piracy, bounty hunting, or a careful mix of all four are viable approaches, with our own choice shaping every journey. The procedurally generated galaxy ensures a sense of scale and freedom that was unprecedented at the time. Elite’s technical achievements on the Commodore 64 were extraordinary.
