Double Dare – Could the C64 Recreate TV’s Messiest Obstacle Course?

️ Double Dare (1988) – Commodore 64 TV Game Show Action & Trivia Released for the Commodore 64 in 1988 in the USA and later in 1991 in the UK, Double Dare is an action-adventure game based on the hit television game show. The US version was developed by Rare, while the UK release was handled by Ocean Software, with both aiming to capture the energetic, messy fun that made the show so popular. Gameplay mixes trivia questions with physical challenges and obstacle-course style action. You alternate between answering questions to build up cash and taking on fast-paced sequences that test timing, movement, and reflexes, mirroring the structure of the TV show itself. Success depends on both knowledge and dexterity, keeping the pace lively and unpredictable. While the two versions share the same core idea, the US release leans into a more cartoon-style presentation and brisk arcade feel, while the UK version introduces small gameplay and pacing differences.
