Blagger – Why This C64 Platformer Became a Favourite
Released in 1983, Blagger is a classic single-screen platform game for the Commodore 64 developed by Antony Crowther and published by Alligata Software. You step into the role of Roger the Dodger, tasked with collecting keys scattered around each screen in order to unlock the safe before time runs out. The game spans 30 increasingly challenging levels, each packed with hazards such as collapsing platforms, conveyor belts, and an assortment of bizarre enemies including giant mouths and alien creatures. Movement is tightly controlled, with fixed jump arcs that demand precise timing and careful positioning. Rather than fast reflexes alone, Blagger rewards planning and pattern recognition. Knowing when and where to jump is critical, as a single mistake can quickly end a run. This balance of risk, timing, and spatial awareness gives the game its enduring appeal.
