Bionic Granny – One of the Strangest C64 Games Ever Released?

Released in 1984 by David and Richard Darling and published by Mastertronic for the Commodore 64, Bionic Granny is one of the most unconventional arcade-style titles of the early home computer era. You take control of an elderly woman with bionic enhancements, tasked with chasing down schoolchildren after class and tapping them with her walking stick. The game is presented from a top-down perspective, with the screen divided into three lanes where children walk steadily across the playfield. You move left and right along the bottom of the screen, positioning Granny to intercept each child at the right moment. Timing and positioning are essential, as you must also avoid lollipops thrown by the crossing guard, which can cost lives and interrupt progress. The simple control scheme keeps the focus on reflexes and rhythm rather than complex mechanics.
